When three people were stabbed at a London Underground Station recently, the police were confronted with a man lunging at them with a knife. They subdued him with a stun gun and arrested him.

No guns and no 16 bullets.

If a driver runs a red light and causes an accident, it would be imprudent to advocate for the removal of the traffic signal. Yet that is essentially what letter-writer Duane Merz argues should be done with gun regulations, because they don’t prevent all shootings, specifically the one in San Bernardino. Just as it is impossible to know how many accidents are prevented by traffic lights, it can’t be determined how many deranged or depressed people are prevented from obtaining weapons, and how many shootings, or suicides, don’t occur because background checks are required for gun purchasers. The old adage that “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” is most applicable when considering the epidemic of gun violence in America.

BBB Letter-writer David Wynn wants to vote Republican Sen. Cory Gardner out of office because he has no problem with someone being able to purchase a gun if they’re on the federal no-fly list. But it’s unconstitutional for someone to be denied his right to purchase a gun just because he is on the no-fly list. Gardner should be applauded for standing up for our constitutional rights, and elected officials who back this liberal, unconstitutional ruse to deny us our Second Amendment rights should be voted out of office.
