Jim Palin told The Associated Press in a phone interview that his son also had injuries to his collarbone and lungs, but he didn’t know the extent of those injuries. He said Todd Palin, 51, was scheduled for surgeryMonday at a hospital near the Palins’ hometown ofWasilla. He said he expects his son to recover fully.

At least 32 people were hurt, two of them critically, authorities said.
Hours later, investigators said they were checking whether a vehicle crash might have damaged the track before the accident.
The train, known as the Southwest Chief, was traveling about 75 mph when the engineer noticed the deformity in the rail.
