POLICE DETAIN SUSPECT IN SHOOTING

Denver police took a possible suspect into custody in connection with an early Sunday shooting that wounded four people at 14th and Market streets downtown. The investigat­ion is ongoing.

Two of the victims are in critical condition, said Denver police spokeswoma­n Raquel Lopez. The others were taken to a hospital.

UNC investigat­es biasmotiva­ted incidents

B greeley» The University of Northern Colorado is investigat­ing 44 bias-motivated incidents on campus over the past year.

The Greeley Tribune reports that those incidents range from students saying “gay” if they mean “bad” to students criticizin­g the university’s campus salon for not meeting the needs of students of color.

Police plan to open new substation B

colorado springs» The Colorado Springs Police Department’s aging, cramped Sand Creek Division substation on the city’s southeast side will be replaced with a modern $10 million to $14 million facility on a nearby site that will be more than twice as big, according to plans submitted to the city’s Land Use Review Division, The Gazette reports.

The larger facility will accommodat­e Sand Creek’s 117 patrol officers and 26 civilian employees and be designed for a 30 percent increase in personnel.

Denver police identify suspect in fatal shooting.

Denver police have identified the suspect in a shooting that killed a man in west Denver on Friday night.

Daniel Gutierrez, 30, faces charges of first-degree murder and seconddegr­ee aggravated assault, police said Sunday.

Police were called to the 200 block of Osceola Street before midnight Friday, said Raquel Lopez, a spokeswoma­n for Denver police.

An adult man, who has not been identified, suffered fatal gunshot wounds.

Autopsy conducted for man killed in Jefferson County. The Jefferson

County Coroner’s Office was scheduled to perform an autopsy Sunday on a 31-year-old man who was found dead Saturday when sheriff ’s deputies responded to calls about a family altercatio­n and shots fired on the 5400 block of West Hinsdale Avenue.

The man’s name has been withheld pending notificati­on of family members and likely won’t be released until Monday, said Mark Techmeyer, Jefferson County Sheriff ’s Office spokesman.

Jeffco deputy struck, injured by stolen Jeep. A

suspect driving a Jeep struck and injured a Jefferson County sheriff ’s deputy as the deputy struggled with a vehicle-theft suspect, said Mark Techmeyer, sheriff ’s spokesman. The deputy had minor injuries.

The incident began at about 10:40 p.m. Saturday, when deputies were dispatched on a report that cars were being broken into. An hour later, deputies spotted the Jeep traveling with a Volkswagen that was reported stolen. When the VW rear-ended the patrol car of one of the deputies, both deputies left their cars and struggled with the VW driver. The Jeep then drove across the median and struck one of the deputies, causing minor injuries, Techmeyer said.

The juvenile fled in the Jeep, which was later found abandoned.

Lakewood police later apprehende­d the juvenile. The second suspect remains at large.
