LECAVALIER STICKING WITH PLAN TO RETIRE

el segundo, calif.» Vincent Lecavalier intends to retire this summer, ending his 17-year NHL career after one last revitalizi­ng season with the Los Angeles Kings.

Lecavalier confirmed his plans Sunday as the Kings left their training complex. Their season ended Friday with a five-game loss to the San Jose Sharks in the playoffs’ first round.

“It’s the same plan since I got here a few months ago,” said Lecavalier, 36. “Getting a chance to play on this team, and obviously we didn’t get to go where we wanted to go at the end of it, but to get a chance to play and have fun is just a great time.”

The forward had 949 points and won the Stanley Cup during a career that began with the Tampa Bay Lightning, which made him the No. 1 pick in the 1998 draft. A dangerous scorer with a physical presence on the ice, he won the Richard Trophy as the NHL’s top goal scorer while racking up a career-high 108 points during the 2006-07 season.

Cejudo no longer undefeated

B las vegas» Henry Cejudo, an Olympic wrestling champion at the 2008 Games in Beijing, suffered his first loss in the octagon Saturday night when flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson beat him by technical knockout (strikes) at UFC 197 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Johnson (24-2-1) needed just 2:49 to retain his title at 125 pounds. Cejudo dropped to 10-1. Their match was 10 pounds below bantamweig­ht, where Cejudo seems more comfortabl­e.

“In the future I would like to go up (in weight),” Cejudo, a former state wrestling champion at Coronado High School, told The Gazette of Colorado Springs. “But I’d like to at least win the belt before I go up to 135.”

Hoffman wins Texas Open title

B san antonio» Charley Hoffman won the Texas Open by making a 9-foot birdie putt on the final hole.

Hoffman, 39, closed with a 3-underpar 69 at TPC San Antonio for a onestroke victory over Patrick Reed. Hoffman finished at 12-under 276 and received $1,116,000 for his fourth victory on the PGA Tour.

Third-round leader Ricky Barnes closed with a 74 and finished fourth.

• Woody Austin and Michael Allen won the Champions Tour’s Legends of Golf in Ridgedale, Mo. They birdied the final hole for a one-stroke victory over David Frost and Roger Chapman.

• Japan’s Haru Nomura cruised to victory at the LPGA Swinging Skirts Classic in Daly City, Calif., winning by four strokes over Lee-Anne Pace.

Earthquake­s defeat K.C. in MLS

B san jose, calif.» Chris Wondolowsk­i scored on a penalty kick and David Bingham made five saves, helping the San Jose Earthquake­s beat Sporting Kansas City 1-0.

• Bradley Wright-Phillips scored twice for the New York Red Bulls, who pinned a 3-2 loss on Orlando City SC in Harrison, N.J.

Nadal still cruising on clay

B barcelona, spain» Rafael Nadal swept defending champion Kei Nishikori 6-4, 7-5 to win the Barcelona Open for the ninth time, equaling Guillermo Vilas’ record of 49 career clay-court titles. Nadal added this title to his trophy from Monte Carlo last week as the 14-time Grand Slam winner regains form on his favorite surface before the French Open.
