lakewood» A male suspect was killed in an officer-involved shooting Tuesday night in Lakewood. No officers were injured.

Detective Ty Countryman, a Lakewood police spokesman, said the incident started about 9:15 p.m. in the parking lot of the Motel 6 at West Fifth Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard.

Officers had been monitoring a suspicious vehicle that did not seem to be associated with any room at the motel. When a male suspect approached the car, police moved in to question him. Countryman said the man fled and, during a brief foot chase, fired shots at the officers.

They returned fire. The suspect was declared dead on the scene.

The three officers involved have been placed on administrative leave under standard policy, Countryman said.

No charges against Northglenn officer.

summit county» Sheriff John Minor will leave his post at the end of May to become chief of the Silverthorne Police Department, officials said Tuesday.

Minor is vacating his position at the sheriff ’s office after serving 12 years as sheriff and long before his current — and final — term ends in 2019, said Taneil Ilano, a sheriff ’s office spokeswoman.

Ilano said Minor’s decision probably stems from his wanting a post with longevity. “His position as sheriff is term-limited.”
