CORONER ID’s MAN KILLED IN AURORA

Authoritie­s in Adams County have identified the man fatally shot last weekend in Aurora’s Morris Heights neighborho­od.

The county coroner’s office says 29-year-old Josias Suarez, of Lakewood, died of multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at University of Colorado Hospital.

Aurora police have not released the names of any suspects in the case or said what motivated the shooting. Anyone with informatio­n about this case is asked to contact Tom Welton at 303-739-6107. Tipsters also can call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.

Commerce City begins work to widen highway.

Commerce City broke ground this week on a project to widen Highway 2, between East 72nd Avenue and Interstate 76, from two to four lanes.

The project, which isn’t expected to be completed until 2018, will include a raised and landscaped median, dedicated bicycle lanes, LED street lighting, in-pavement lighting/reflectors, multi-use trail, landscape improvemen­ts and improved drainage.

The $27 million effort will require lane closures throughout constructi­on. An open house on the project is scheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday at Lester Arnold High School, 6500 E. 72nd Ave, Commerce City.

Federal Heights residents form recall committee. A small group of

residents in Federal Heights have formed a recall committee with the intent to unseat Mayor Daniel Dick and Mayor Pro Tem John Hamlin.

The three-member group has already gained enough signatures from voters in the north Denver suburb to certify the two petitions against Dick and Hamlin, citing the council members’ support for a 2013 city rental home inspection ordinance that members of the committee believe is unfair.

Hamlin protested the petition and will have a hearing in front of City Clerk Patti Lowell. A decision on his recall will be made Nov. 2. Dick also protested and will have a hearing Nov. 3 with a decision by the city clerk Nov. 8.

Rescuers help woman after fall. Jefferson County

rescue teams responded on Friday morning after a woman fell up to 75 feet while hiking in Clear Creek Canyon west of Golden.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says the woman was with others when she fell near Tunnel 2 on U.S. 6. The Golden Fire Department headed up the rescue efforts.

Mark Techmeyer, a sheriff’s office spokesman, said the woman was conscious and breathing after the fall. Officials were notified of the incident about 10 a.m.

Juveniles charged in Halloween death threats.

Authoritie­s in El Paso County have charged two juveniles in connection with a death threat against students, faculty and guests at Falcon High School.

The county sheriff ’s office said on Oct. 7, the school’s resource deputy learned of the threat circulatin­g on social media stating that instructio­ns must be followed or teachers, students, principals and even guests would be killed on Halloween. Authoritie­s tracked the threat and determined it is no longer valid. The juveniles are accused of interferin­g with students or faculty at a school and harassment.
