TEEN SHOT IN HOME; FRIEND IS IN CUSTODY

jefferson county» A teenager was shot in a Jefferson County home Friday afternoon, and another teen, the victim’s friend, is in custody.

The shooting happened at about 3 p.m. in the 11300 block of West Bowles Place, said Mark Techmeyer, a Jefferson County sheriff ’s spokesman.

Deputies found a 14year-old boy inside a home suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital with life-threatenin­g injuries and is in critical condition, Techmeyer said.

A 15-year-old ran from the scene. Deputies found the teen who fled on foot about 2 miles away. He was taken into custody.

“Whether this was intentiona­l or a tragic accident has yet to be determined,” Techmeyer said.

The boys’ names were not released. A weapon had not been recovered Friday night.

Keenesburg teen dies in early-morning crash

B weld county» State troopers are investigat­ing the death of a 16-year-old Keenesburg girl they say died in a traffic crash early Friday morning.

According to Trooper Josh Lewis, the girl, whose name was not released, was driving a 2004 Ford pickup about midnight west on Colorado 52 about 40 miles southeast of Greeley. Troopers believe she veered to the north side of the road and overcorrec­ted. No other vehicles were involved.

The girl, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead when first responders arrived.

Magnitude-4.5 quake hits northeaste­rn New Mexico B

cimarron, n.m.» The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting a magnitude-4.5 earthquake in a remote area just south of the New Mexico-Colorado state line. There were no reports of damage from the quake, which occurred around 12:30 p.m. Friday. The epicenter was about 17 miles northwest of Cimarron and about 90 miles northeast of Santa Fe.

An employee at Ted Turner’s Vermejo Park Ranch reported a brief shuttering, as if the building had been hit by a very strong gust of wind.

Worker who died in industrial accident is ID’d

B moffat county» Authoritie­s have identified the 58-year-old worker who died Thursday after he was struck in the head by a heavy, metal object in an industrial accident at a landfill near Craig. Darrell Snow, a Moffat County Road and Bridge employee, was completing snow removal and transporta­tion operations at the county landfill when he died.

Gunman arrested and booked B

fowler» Pueblo police have arrested a 21-year-old man suspected of shooting a bail bondsman Thursday morning.

SWAT officers took Adrian Carrera into custody at a motel in Fowler. He was booked into the Pueblo County jail on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder and outstandin­g warrants.

Police say Carrera tried to flee when officers moved in to arrest him late Thursday, climbing out of a bathroom window and taking off on foot before he was tracked down in a field. Authoritie­s say he had a loaded handgun.

In the motel room, Pueblo police say they also found more weapons and ammunition.
