Paper Trails 2016 HOUTALAQUINA, YUKON TERRITORY
Who: Dan Moore of Boulder, Stan Moore, Janet Martel and Dan Martel of Lakewood Where: Houtalaquina is a ghost town at the confluence of the Teslin and Yukon rivers. It was an administrative and commercial center and had a shipyard during the Yukon gold rush of 1898. No roads reach it; you must float or fly in. We canoed in from Whitehorse. Best time to go: Late July. Days are warm and long; mosquitoes were not a problem. Take a sleeping mask if you can’t sleep in the light. Who: Vinny and Mary Martin of Lakewood Where: Inverary Castle, Inverary, Scotland Best deal: We stayed at bed and breakfasts in Largs, Dunoon, Oban and Stirling, Scotland. B&Bs provide a room plus a huge Scottish breakfast that keeps you going through the day. Our hosts were a wealth of information about local sites to visit, where to eat and shop.
