SHIPWRECKS IN THE BAHAMAS

-

Who: Ed, of Arvada

Where: Wreck of the Sea Viking south of New Providence Island, Bahamas. This is one of many wrecks in the area.

Best meal: The Breezes resort hotel on Cable Beach has a variety of food choices, but the Garden of Eden is a terrific outdoor location to have a relaxing meal.

Best deal: There are a variety of places for a diver or tourist on a modest budget to stay, and the Orange Hill is a good place for modest accommodations. It’s also a stop where the Stuart Cove dive operation makes a bus pickup to get you to the dive boats for diving or snorkeling. Best time to go: It depends on preferences. Hurricane season may present travel issues, but good deals can be had. Summer promises larger crowds, but the water temperature is comfortable.

Best travel tip: Climate change is having increasing impacts on the world’s oceans through acidification, warmer water temperatures and water-level rise. The best tip we can offer is for those who care about the oceans and their health — and being able to see their wonders — is to become active in the effort to combat climate change and protect our oceans and their sea life.
