$21.7 MILLION JURY AWARD IN COPTER CRASH
KY.» A Kentucky MANCHESTER, jury awarded $21.7 million to the families of three people who died in a June 2013 medical helicopter crash.
A jury in Clay County decided the award Thursday after a three-week trial and five hours of deliberation, according to local media outlets.
Four years ago, the helicopter crashed in an elementary school parking lot 750 feet from a helipad, killing pilot and retired sheriff’s Deputy Eddy Sizemore, 61; paramedic Herman “Lee” Dobbs, 40; and Jesse Jones, 28.
Eight family members sued Bell Helicopter Textron Inc., the helicopter’s manufacturer.

POWELL, 18-month-old female manatee arrived at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium from a zoo in Tampa, Fla.
Columbus Zoo officials said Agua arrived Friday from Tampa’s Lowery Park Zoo. She had been in Tampa since June 2016 after her mother was struck by a boat. The mother died two months later.
Zoo officials said Agua wasn’t injured but has required extra care after being orphaned at a young age. She will be released into Florida waters after her Columbus rehabilitation stint is completed.
Tot finds gun in van, kills self. OHIO» Police
PARMA, say the gun a 3-year-old Ohio boy used to accidentally shoot himself was found by the toddler in the console of his father’s van.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s office identified the boy killed Thursday afternoon in the Cleveland suburb of Parma as Christian Hein, of Richfield. He died of a gunshot wound to the head.
Police say the toddler’s father was outside the van saying goodbye to his parents in the driveway of their Parma home when Christian found the gun and shot himself.
Woman accused of killing mom with crossbow.

PALMERTON, woman has been arrested in the death of her mother who police allege was killed with a crossbow after the two argued.
Lisa Marie Caplan, 51, of Palmerton, is charged with criminal homicide in the death of 71-year-old Sandra Marie Barndt.
State police in Carbon County said relatives became concerned after not having any contact with Barndt since Wednesday and asked police to check on her. Police officers went to the Palmerton home Friday and found her body.

PA.» A Pennsylvania couple is accused of having subjected a 12-year-old girl to waterboarding last spring as a form of punish- ment.
Aliquippa police said the couple told them they learned about waterboarding through a movie.
Dion Stevens, 34, and 41-year-old Malisa Stevens were charged Wednesday with strangulation, aggravated assault, unlawful restraint, child endangerment and reckless endangerment.
