O-LINE INCLUDES CAR CONNOISSEUR

- By Nicki Jhabvala

Sitting most days in the players’ parking lot of the Broncos’ Dove Valley training facility is a silver SS Chevelle. The proud owner is offensive lineman Billy Turner, who has grown into somewhat of a car connoisseur.

The fourth-year player was drafted by the Dolphins in 2014 and spent more than two years in Miami, where his affinity for cars grew.

Turner was claimed off waivers by the Broncos last October and played in eight games in his first season. He has been inactive for the team’s first three games this season, but as he and the rest of the team prepared for Raiders week, Turner talked to The Denver Post about his interest in cars. Q: Tell me about that Chevelle sitting out there. A: I got a 1971 SS Chevelle with a 502 (engine) in it. I got some friends down in South Florida that I met a couple years back when I was playing down there that owned an exotic car dealership and car customization dealership and I kind of got close with them. I’ve always liked cars, but after I met them and kind of being around them for a couple years, that’s how my interest got spiked. Q: When did your interest in cars first begin? A: I’ve always had an interest in cars. But probably three or four years ago, when I was down there and I was around cars more and I bought my first car. After that it was an interesting thing and I was trying to find unique cars for a good price, flip some of

them, try to make some money off of them. I personally can’t do any of the rebuilds myself, but as far as certain things that I like, in terms of specifications with engines and stuff, that just all kind of developed and was learned while I was down there being around my buddies that owned the shop. Just kind of seeing them go through the ins and outs of cars and different performance things for clients. Q: What would be your dream car? A: That’s a great question. I don’t know if I have one, to be honest. I just like a lot of different cars. Q: Are you more interested in the classics or do you like the modern ones? A: I’m more of an old-school type of car guy, but with old- school cars, as a lot of people know, you can run into a lot of problems. So it’s kind of hit or miss and you have to know what you’re doing and know how far you can go into a car without losing money on it. Q: What’s your favorite car that you’ve owned? A: Right now, probably the Chevelle. Before that I had a Cadillac CTS V and I had a Camaro ZL1. Those were probably three of my favorites. Q: What’s in your garage now? A: Just the Chevelle and my Tahoe. Q: Any others coming soon?

A: Shoot, not right now. I gotta make some more money (laughs).
