About Oregon State
Oregon State coach Gary Andersen resigned after a 1-5 start. The Beavers narrowly defeated Portland State, but suffered blowout losses to Colorado State, Minnesota, Washington State, Washington and USC.
Story lines
• New coach, new focus? Andersen’s departure was stunning, but it has yet to be seen what impact it will have on this matchup. Interim coach Cory Hall, formerly the cornerbacks coach, didn’t have time to implement major scheme changes. That doesn’t mean the Beavers won’t look different. The emotional tilt might push OSU into its most inspiring performance of the year. It might also push the Beavers to lower depths. Stay tuned.
• A Buffalo bounce-back. CU’s dismal start to its Pac-12 slate should find some temporary relief. OSU’s defense has been anemic through six games, while the Buffaloes’ offense appears to be reaching its full potential with improved decision-making from quarterback Steven Montez, plus the leadership and production of tailback Phillip Lindsay. A road conference win will be essential for the confidence of this group as it strives for bowl eligibility. • Hammer and a Nall. OSU tailback Ryan Nall is among the most dynamic rushers in the Pac-12 and has eclipsed 100 yards on the ground twice this season. Nall is recovering from an ankle sprain but is expected to play against CU. The Buffaloes have much to prove stopping the run. Behind the stellar play of backup quarterback Khalil Tate last week, Arizona rushed for 413 yards in Boulder.
