Receiving corps takes two hits — Sanders, McKenzie
The Denver Post
Broncos wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders appeared to suffer a significant injury to his lower right leg late in the third quarter against the Giants on Sunday night.
After he was unable to haul in a wayward pass from quarterback Trevor Siemian, Sanders was hit below the knee by Giants defensive back Landon Collins, who was going for the interception.
Sanders, who had caught five passes for 76 yards to that point, immediately clutched his right leg after the hit. After several minutes, Sanders was helped off the field by trainers and was later carted to the locker room.
The Broncos ruled Sanders out for the rest of the game with an ankle injury.
Shortly after Sanders left the field, the Broncos appeared to suffer another significant injury to their wide receiver corps.
Rookie Isaiah McKenzie had to be carted off the field with an apparent right leg injury after an incomplete deep pass early in the fourth quarter.
McKenzie was writhing in pain and was then loaded on a cart and removed from the field. Giants’ players had immediately called for trainers from the sideline after McKenzie was injured.
“Isaiah’s been coming along. We’ve been working him in more. So that would stink,” quarterback Trevor Siemian said. “I don’t want to speculate on any of that, but he’s done a really good job of picking up things . ... And Emmanuel, obviously we know how good he is. That would be unfortunate, but at the same time all those other guys — Bennie (Fowler), Jordan Taylor — keep stepping up when they get their chances. It’s next man up.”
Wide receiver Demaryius Thomas also was banged up and was limping throughout the second half.
