MAN SENTENCED TO 160 YEARS IN SEX ASSAULT
A 53-year-old man has been sentenced to 160 years to life in prison for committing a 1999 kidnap and sexual assault that was considered a “cold case” until he was arrested in July 2016.
Albert Matthews was convicted in August of seconddegree kidnapping and firstdegree sexual assault of a 44-year-old woman who was attacked while walking home. She was forced into an alley and a backyard.
Matthews was also found to be a habitual criminal.
The case was cold, the Denver District Attorney’s Office says, until March 2015, when Matthews was matched to the crime through DNA.
