STATE MOVES FISH FROM RESERVOIR TO OTHER WATERS

- — Denver Post wire services

Colorado Parks and Wildlife fish biologists have moved 3,200 fish from Lonetree Reservoir and into nearby public fishing waters during the past month.

Ben Swigle, fishery biologist, and Jason Duff, assistant fishery biologist, removed more than 100 fish on Friday from 15 nets they set in the waters southwest of Loveland and transported those fish, including black crappie and yellow perch, to River’s Edge Natural Area in Loveland.

They hope to move as many fish as possible before the end of June, when the state’s lease on the water and surrounding area expires.

Patagonia gives $5,000 to restore trout habitat.

SPRINGS» The GLENWOOD

Patagonia World Trout Initiative will donate $5,000 to the Middle Colorado Trout Council, officials have announced.

The Colorado group seeks to protect the native cutthroat trout, which it says is in danger of being eradicated from the state because of the threat of other fish and the added stress of habitat destruction. The council hopes to establish proper riparian habitat in areas that are known to have existing populations of the fish.

“When I first received the letter from Patagonia, I thought, ‘Wow!’ and then I thought, ‘How great is that, a large company that looks after native fish!’ ” said Nate Higginson, watershed technician for the Middle Colorado Watershed Council. “It’s great that Patagonia puts funding toward what its customers value.”
