Broncos Grades

- By Nick Kosmider,

OFFENSE F

The Broncos were shut out for the first time in 394 games, a streak that dated back to 1992. That was the only number that mattered in a dreadful Denver performance.

DEFENSE B-

The Denver defense consistently answered the bell and got the ball back for its beleaguered offense. But the unit was worn down during a six-minute Chargers TD drive in the fourth quarter.

SPECIAL TEAMS D-

On a day when the Denver offense was at its worst, the puntreturn touchdown the Broncos gave up in the first quarter was all Los Angeles needed to win.

COACHING D-

The Broncos enjoyed a rare advantage Sunday: a crowd at its back on the road. But the staff couldn’t find any adjustments to spark an offense that continues to regress.

GAME BALLS

Travis Benjamin, Chargers WR. The speedy Benjamin fielded a low, line-drive punt on one bounce and sprinted 65 yards for the game’s first touchdown. He also had a fourth-quarter TD reception that put the game away.

Joey Bosa, Chargers DE. The former Ohio State star registered two of the Chargers’ five sacks of Denver quarterback Trevor Siemian. Melvin Ingram made a sack and saw a second one negated by a penalty. Drew Kaser, Chargers P. Kaser had a terrific net punting average of 44.8 yards. His first punt of the third quarter was a 69-yard effort that pinned Denver’s feeble offense at its own 1-yard line.
