STANFORD’S LOVE COULD MISS GAME

- — The Associated Press

In the midst of his Heisman Trophy campaign, Bryce Love may — or may not — sit this one out.

Stanford’s running back tweaked an ankle against Oregon on Oct. 14 and is a game-time decision for the No. 20 Cardinal on Thursday night at Oregon State.

Love is the nation’s top running back this season, averaging 198.1 yards per game. He has 1,387 total yards this season and is averaging 10.3 yards per carry — both also national bests.

Gators coach admits he was wrong.

GAINESVILLE,

FLA.» Calling his actions uncharacteristic, Florida coach Jim McElwain said he was wrong to bring up death threats that “happened in the past.”

The former Colorado State coach provided insight into the threats while expressing remorse for the firestorm he caused and those it affected.

“It’s just something that came up and obviously was on my mind,” he said after practice. “It doesn’t make it right. It doesn’t make it right to air that laundry.”

McElwain said Monday that Florida players and families received death threats amid the team’s struggles. He did not contact police and declined to say whether he personally received threats.

Vols suspend two.

Tennessee running back John Kelly and linebacker Will Ignont were suspended for the Volunteers’ game Saturday with Kentucky after they were cited on misdemeanor drug-related charges.

Knoxville police say they stopped a car that had a headlight out Tuesday at about 10:46 p.m. Police said they searched the vehicle with Kelly’s consent after smelling marijuana, and that 4.6 grams of marijuana and a glass pipe were found in the console.
