IN VOTER FRAUD CASE, DIABETIC BLACKOUT BLAMED

- — Staff and wire reports

In the first day of testimony in District Court on Tuesday, a former Colorado GOP chairman accused of committing voter fraud blamed a diabetic blackout for his filling out his ex-wife’s ballot during the 2016 election. Steve Curtis, 57, who from 1997-99 served as chairman of the state Republican Party, is charged with one count of voter fraud and one count of forgery after prosecutors say he filled out and mailed in the ballot of his ex-wife, Kelly Curtis, from his Firestone home in fall 2016.

No cause of death found in autopsy of Aurora theater victim who died Sunday.

COUNTY» An ARAPAHOE autopsy of Heather Snyder, the Aurora theater shooting victim who died Sunday, could not determine a cause of death, according to the coroner’s office.

Toxicology and microscopic examination of tissues that could determine why the 31-year-old died will take six to eight weeks, Tamara Davis, deputy coroner, said Tuesday.

Snyder had to have her index and middle finger amputated after the rampage by a lone gunman on July 20, 2012, at a showing of “The Dark Knight Rises” at the Century Aurora 16 movie theater.

“She never totally recovered from it. She was reminded of it every day,” Rick Snyder, her father, said Monday.

Heather Snyder was among a group of 12 Red Robin workers who attended the movie to celebrate the 27th birthday of a fellow employee, Alex Sullivan. Snyder and six other members of the party were wounded. Sullivan and 11 others died in the 2012 shooting, and 70 others were injured.

Second Topgolf a step closer.

THORNTON» A planned Topgolf complex in Thornton took a step forward Tuesday night with City Council approval of a resolution looking at a new location in the Larkridge Retail Center.

After passing on a proposed location at Interstate 25 and 136th Avenue, the golf-focused outfit is aiming a bit farther north up I-25, but still in Thornton, near 160th Avenue, according to Topgolf and city officials.

City staff members recommended the council authorize the “use of the administrative review process” for the Topgolf project at Larkridge, and KMGH-TV reported the council voted its approval Tuesday night.
