HUSKIES UPSET NO. 2 JAYHAWKS

MO.» Matisse Thybulle KANSAS CITY, hit five 3-pointers and scored 19 points, Jaylen Nowell added 15 and Washington led most of the way in upsetting second-ranked Kansas 74-65 on Wednesday night.

Noah Dickerson added 13 points and 14 rebounds for the Huskies (7-2), who knocked the Jayhawks (7-1) from the ranks of the unbeaten with their first victory over them since December 1974.

Lagerald Vick had a careerhigh 28 points for Kansas, doing almost all his damage in the middle of the Huskies’ 2-3 zone. But he didn’t get a whole lot of help as the Jayhawks went 5-for-20 from the 3-point arc, lowlighted by lousy performanc­es from sharpshoot­ers Devonte Graham and Svi Mykhailiuk.

Graham, coming off back-toback 35-point outbursts, was held to three points on 1-for-8 shooting, while Mykhailiuk was 3-for12 from the field and scored eight points before fouling out.

HIGHLIGHTS

Aundre Jackson scored 23 points, Cameron Krutwig added 14 and Loyola-Chicago stunned No. 5 Florida 63-59, handing the Gators a third consecutiv­e loss. The Gators (5-3) shot 36.9 percent from the field, missed 17 of 19 3-point attempts and finished with seven assists. … Chris Silva scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Felipe Haase added 17 with nine boards, and South Carolina used a big second-half run to beat Wyoming 80-64. Frank Booker scored 16 points with three 3-pointers, six rebounds and three steals. Freshman Justin Minaya added 11 points for the Gamecocks. Wyoming’s Justin James scored 20 points with 12 rebounds. … Luke Maye had 12 points and 12 rebounds while No. 11 hit a season-high 16 3-pointers to beat Western Carolina 104-61. Freshman Jalek Felton had a team-high 15 points for the Tar Heels, who finished with six players in double figures.

UCLA canceled Wednesday night’s basketball game with Montana because of wildfires in the Southern California area.

Women

Colorado held off Colorado State to win 70-67. The Buffs led 61-48 after three quarters, only to see the Rams rally to within a point in the final seconds.

CU went 4-for-4 from the freethrow line in the final 14 seconds. A 3-pointer by CSU’s Callie Kaiser made it 68-67 with nine seconds left, but Kennedy Leonard hit two free throws with seven seconds left.

Grace Colaivalu, who led the Rams with 13 points, missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have sent it to overtime.

Annika Jank led CU with 22 points and 10 rebounds.

HIGHLIGHTS

Kelsey Mitchell became Ohio State’s all-time leading scorer in the first quarter and the 12thranked Buckeyes beat Florida 103-77. Mitchell, who leads the nation with 25.7 points per game, passed Jantel Lavender (2,818 points, 2008-11), who now plays for the Los Angeles Sparks.
