EX-SKIPPER FARRELL NOW A REDS SCOUT

The Reds added John Farrell as a scout.

It will be Farrell’s first job since the Red Sox dismissed him as their manager in October with one year left on his contract. He posted a 432-378 record over five seasons with Boston, including a World Series championsh­ip in 2013 and two last-place finishes.

The 55-year-old Farrell was expected to report to the Reds spring training camp in Goodyear, Ariz., on Thursday.

Greinke leaves early.

Diamondbac­ks right-hander Zack Greinke left Wednesday’s game against the Reds with right groin tightness.

Greinke allowed one hit and zero runs, striking out two, in one inning before departing.

Last season, he went 17-7 with a 3.20 ERA.

Another Rays pitcher hurt.

FLA.» Right-hander PORT CHARLOTTE, Jose De Leon has become the second Tampa Bay Rays pitching prospect in less than a month to have Tommy John surgery.

De Leon’s torn ulnar collateral ligament was repaired Tuesday by Dr. James Andrews, the team said Wednesday.

The 25-year-old made a pair of one-inning appearance­s in spring training this year, on Feb. 26 and March 3.

Prado on disabled list.

MIAMI» The Marlins said third baseman Martin Prado will begin the season on the disabled list while he recovers from right knee surgery.

Hamstring and knee injuries limited Prado to 37 games last year, and while he has been working out, he has yet to play in spring training.

Brian Anderson played in 25 games as a rookie last year and batted .262.

Brewers’ Vogt sidelined.

The Brewers are not expected to have catcher Stephen Vogt for opening day after a second opinion on his ailing right shoulder revealed a strained capsule.

Vogt, 33, will be shut down indefinite­ly.

Acquired from the Athletics last season, Vogt went on to hit .254 with eight HRs in 122 at bats for Milwaukee.

Actor stands in for coach.

ARIZ.» Actor Jim Caviezel SURPRISE, has played Jesus and golfer Bobby Jones on the big screen. On Wednesday, he portrayed Royals bench coach Dale Sveum.

Sveum had a medical appointmen­t for his stiff neck and missed the photo shoot, so Caviezel stood in for him.

“That way we can Photoshop the head with Dale in there,” Royals manager Ned Yost said.

Cardinals’ Carpenter homers.

FLA.» Matt Carpenter WEST PALM BEACH, is showing the Cardinals what they were missing while he was sidelined by a back strain.

A day after making his spring training debut, Carpenter hit a two-run, wind-aided home run off Justin Verlander in the Cardinals’ 3-1 win over Houston.
