Simpson headlines list of inductees
Jenny Simpson, who ran for the University of Colorado track and cross country teams before becoming the most accomplished female 1,500-meter runner in U.S. history, will be inducted into the Colorado Running Hall of Fame next month as part of its 12th class of inductees.
Simpson won a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics and medals at three world championships, including gold in 2017. She ran her first Olympics in 2008 as a steeplechaser while still a CU runner, and is a three-time Olympian.
Four other runners will be inducted, bringing membership in the hall to 71.
Dave Mackey. An ultrarunner with national titles for 50 kilometers, 50 miles and 100 kilometers. Mackey had to have his left leg amputated following a 2015 trail running accident. A year after the amputation, he ran a 50K trail race with a prosthesis.

at Dayton before becoming the first American woman to win a medal (bronze) at the World Mountain Running Championships, helping the U.S. to a gold medal in the team competition. She has won 17 individual national titles while coaching cross country at San Luis High School.
John Esquibel. A former Adams State runner, Esquibel won national collegiate titles and coached high school teams at Trinidad, Cherry Creek, Westminster and Ranum, winning four state championships. He has been the cross country coach at Regis University the past 13 years.
Ardel Boes. Avid recreational runner who frequently wins masters titles in local races and has won national masters titles in the marathon and half marathon. He’s also won pack burro races in the Colorado high country.
The hall was created in 2007 by the Colfax Marathon, which continues to steward it. The induction will be April 10 at the Denver Athletic Club with light buffet at 5:30 p.m., followed by the program at 6 p.m.
