Saturday’s recap

Brewers 4, Rockies 3 At Maryvale Baseball Park

By most measures, Rockies outfielder Raimel Tapia has had a solid spring training. He’s fielded the ball well and is batting .264 after a 1-for-4 performance Saturday. However, after a one-out single in the third, he was picked off first base. It was the third time he’s been picked off in Cactus League action, but manager Bud Black is not overly concerned.

“We are challenging Raimel, and all of our guys, to get big leads that they are uncomfortable with,” Black said. “So, come a couple of weeks when the regular season is upon us, they will feel more comfortable getting an extended lead and still have the ability to get back. They are seeing how far they can do things.”

On the mound

Right-hander Antonio Senzatela, battling for a spot at the back of the rotation, pitched an uneven 3M innings, giving up four runs on six hits with a walk and three strikeouts. A messy second inning, which included a fielding error by Senzatela and a two-run homer to Jett Bandy, was Senzatela’s undoing.

The relief trio of Adam Ottavino, Chris Rusin and Scott Oberg blanked the Brewers, and all three looked sharp.

At the plate

Carlos Gonzalez, looking to get at-bats before his abbreviated spring ends, made the trip to Maryvale and went 0-for-2 with a strikeout and a hit-by-pitch. … The Rockies, fielding a mostly minor-league lineup, managed just six hits. Two of them, including a double, came from rookie first baseman Ryan Mcmahon, who’s hitting .333.

Worth noting

The Brewers pulled off a 5-4-3 triple play in the second inning, with Rockies shortstop Daniel Castro hitting a groundball to third baseman Hernan Perez to begin the tri-killing.
