HUGE BREACH HITS UNDER ARMOUR USERS

BALTIMORE» Sports apparel merchant Under Armour has become the latest victim of a massive digital theft of sensitive informatio­n about tens of millions of customers.

The Baltimore company disclosed Thursday that an intruder grabbed the email addresses and login informatio­n during a February break-in affecting about 150 million users of its food and nutrition website, MyFitnessP­al.

Under Armour says the hacker didn’t obtain any payment informatio­n, Social Security numbers or driver’s license numbers.

Consumer spending up in Feb.

WASHINGTON» Americans increased their spending just 0.2 percent in February, while their incomes were boosted by increased wages and business owners’ income.

The Commerce Department says the modest spending increase followed an equal gain in January and a rise of 0.4 percent in December. Incomes increased a healthy 0.4 percent.

Tesla recalls 123,000 Model S sedans.

DETROIT» Electric car maker Tesla is recalling 123,000 sedans worldwide to fix a problem with the power-assisted steering. The recall covers all Model S sedans built before April of 2016. Three bolts holding the power steering motor in place can corrode and either come loose or break, possibly causing a loss of power steering. Manual steering would still work.

Barclays to pay $2B fine over role in banking crisis.

YORK» British NEW bank Barclays agreed to pay $2 billion in civil penalties in a settlement on Thursday over its role in the subprime mortgage bubble and subsequent financial crisis. But in a rare and notable move, U.S. authoritie­s went further to fine two individual bankers as part of their role in the subprime mortgage crisis.

State rigs unchanged.

HOUSTON» The number of rigs exploring for oil and natural gas in the U.S. decreased by two this week to 993. Houston oilfield services company Baker Hughes reported Colorado’s number of rigs was unchanged.

VW says it would buy diesel cars if they are banned. FRANKFURT»

Volkswagen is trying to reassure German customers worried about the future of their diesel cars by telling them they can trade in their new diesel if it is banned from the road by cities trying to meet air pollution limits.
