Rapids tie with FC Dallas 11 after a late goal

FRISCO, TEXAS» Cristian Colman’s header tied it in the 89th minute and FC Dallas salvaged a 1-1 draw against the Rapids on Saturday.

FC Dallas goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer made a diving save of Johan Blomberg’s shot in the 74th minute to keep the deficit at one, and Dallas pressed forward in the final 15 minutes in search of the equalizer.

“I’m incredibly proud of the players,” Rapids coach Anthony Hudson said. “To come to a difficult place like this, against a team that are constantly very, very strong at home, I’m just pleased. Pleased with the performanc­e. We’re scoring in every game now, we look a threat going forward, and I think, in the end, it probably was a fair result.”

Mauro Diaz sent a 35-yard diagonal cross over the top of the Rapids’ central defense and Colman headed it down to tie it at 1.

Joe Mason opened the scoring for Colorado (1-1-2) in the 62nd minute with a leftfooted finish that deflected in off defender Reto Ziegler. Dominique Badji won a long ball about 35 yards from goal and isolated Ziegler to set up Mason.

Atlanta United defender Chris Mccann was shown a red card in the first minute, but referee Ted Unkel reduced the penalty to a yellow after video review.

Nikolic helps Fire get first victory.

BRIDGEVIEW, ILL.» Nemanja Nikolic scored after pouncing on a defensive miscue in the 27th minute to help the Chicago Fire beat the Columbus Crew 1-0. Richard Sanchez had two saves for the Fire.
