BOGAERTS TO MISS 10 TO 14 DAYS WITH INJURED LEFT ANKLE

- — The Associated Press

BOSTON» Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts is going on the 10day disabled list because of a cracked bone in his left ankle.

Boston says an MRI confirmed the injury Monday, a day after he was hurt. The injury is a nondisplaced fracture and won’t require surgery. He is expected to miss 10 to 14 days.

Bogaerts, a 2016 American League all-star, left Sunday’s 8-7 win over Tampa Bay in the seventh inning after injuring his ankle while sliding into the Rays’ dugout. He was covering third base and chasing his own mishandling of a ball relayed by left fielder J.D. Martinez.

Ramirez may have T.J. surgery.

Angels right-handed starting pitcher JC Ramirez was diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament, and Tommy John surgery is recommended.

He was diagnosed with a partially torn UCL last season and underwent stem-cell treatment instead of opting for surgery.

Ramirez lasted just two innings Saturday against the Athletics in his last start because of forearm tightness.

Cubs put Rizzo on 10-day DL.

The Cubs placed first baseman Anthony Rizzo on the 10-day disabled list with a back injury.

The move is retroactive to last Friday as Rizzo has missed the team’s past three games and was scheduled to miss Monday’s home opener before it was snowed out.

McGwire speaks on 70 HRs.

Mark McGwire insists he didn’t need to use performance-enhancing drugs to hit 70 home runs, saying in an interview that he would have accomplished that feat without help.

“Absolutely,” McGwire said, according to The Athletic. “I just know myself. I just know. I was a born home run hitter.”
