DEPUTIES KILL 1, WOUND 1 IN ADAMS COUNTY

- — Elizabeth Hernandez, The Denver Post

A woman was killed and another woman wounded after being shot by Adams County Sheriff’s deputies while they responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle about 11 a.m. Thursday.

Two women were inside a vehicle with a man driving when deputies approached the vehicle, said Adams County Sheriff Mike McIntosh during an afternoon news briefing about the shooting near West 69th Avenue and Pecos Street.

It’s unclear whether the woman fired at deputies when they approached or just had her gun drawn, McIntosh said.

One woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

McIntosh said he didn’t know if the vehicle was in motion during the shooting.

The driver of the vehicle, an unidentified man, was being questioned by police.

Officials also are unsure whether both deputies fired at the victims or if just one deputy did. The officers involved, who have not been named, were placed on paid administrative leave, as is standard in an officer-involved shooting.
