Where to watch in metro Denver

-

All 64 World Cup matches will be televised live on Fox or its sports channel, FS1, but many soccer fanatics prefer to watch their favorite teams in the company of like-minded fans at soccer pubs or sports bars. Here is a list of some places where the atmosphere is bound to be crazy fun.

The British Bulldog, 2052 Stout St, Denver

At this soccer-oriented pub, the party will overflow onto the sidewalk, where there will be a tent with TVs and speakers. For big games, the street will be closed off for viewers to watch the action on a jumbotron. The Colorado Rapids will be there to help stage watch parties for 20 games during the group stage and four knockout-phase games. The Rapids’ digital show, Tailgate Live, will be there for key matches. The Rapids will host a watch party for the final at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Celtic on Market, 1400 Market St., Denver This soccer-oriented establishment moved from 18th and Blake streets to this new location last year. With the U.S. and Ireland not in the tournament this time, the Celtic has been designated the official fan headquarters for Iceland by that country’s consulate. Iceland is in the tournament for the first time and is the smallest country ever to qualify.

Three Lions, 2239 E. Colfax Ave., Denver Another soccer-oriented pub, Three Lions normally opens at 11 a.m. on weekdays but will open early every day during the World Cup -- at least 15 minutes before the first game of the day. Weekend happy hours will run 7-11 a.m. with breakfast served until 11 a.m.

GB Fish & Chips, 2175 Sheridan Blvd., Edgewater

This restaurant, which serves English specialties, such as bangers and mash and meat pies, as well as fish and chips, normally opens at 11 a.m., but it will open early during the World Cup. Other locations at Wash Park, Arvada and Park Hill are also gearing up for the World Cup.

Zona Cero, 8980 Federal Blvd, Federal Heights A great place to watch Mexico play, Zona Cero is owned by Rapids’ Spanish-language play-byplay announcer Esdrel Peinado. His establishment seats 170 and will have several big screen TVs tuned to the games.

Prost Brewing Company, 2540 19th St., Denver This brewery and tasting room will be an attraction for fans of Germany, the defending World Cup champions. They will open early when Germany plays, and while they don’t have a kitchen, they will have a food truck that serves German delicacies prepared by a chef from Austria.

Maria Empanada, 1298 S. Broadway, Denver

The food is Argentinian, so this place will be rocking when Argentina plays, but it also attracts fans of other South American countries and Spain.
