DU’S CARLE BRINGS IN TWO ASSISTANTS

The University of Denver’s David Carle, college hockey’s youngest head coach, is now surrounded by two 40-somethings with college and major-junior head-coaching background­s.

Carle, 28, is set to announce the addition of assistant coach Dallas Ferguson, who was the head coach of the Western Hockey League’s Calgary Hitmen last season, according to an NCAA source. Ferguson, 45, previously was the head coach for Alaska Fair banks of the NCAA for nine years through 2017, taking over for Tavis MacMillan in 2008.

MacMillan, 47, has worked with Carle the last three years at DU. Both were hired by Jim Montgomery, now the head coach of the Dallas Stars.

Carle, who will formerly announce Ferguson’s hiring Tuesday, was named Montgomery’s successor May 25.

DU also plans on announcing the 2019-20 addition of forward Hank Crone, who played 35 games for Boston University as a freshman last season. Crone will return to junior hockey and the Fargo Force of the United States Hockey League next season before joining the Pioneers. He is expected to sign with DU this fall.

Also Tuesday, DU announced the graduate transfer of defenseman Les Lancaster from Mercyhurst College. Lancaster, 23, is a two-time Atlantic Hockey Conference first-team allstar who also was named 2016 AHC rookie of the year and named 2017 AHC best defenseman. Lancaster has already obtained his undergradu­ate degree and will be a senior next season as a DU graduate student.

Owens to celebrate induction at old

school. Terrell Owens has decided to celebrate his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame at Chattanoog­a, where he played college football.

The former NFL All-Pro receiver, who has said he was not attending the induction ceremony in Canton, Ohio, released a statement on Tuesday saying he would give his acceptance speech at his alma mater. Jamon Brown was suspended for the first two games of the Los Angeles Rams’ upcoming season for violating the NFL policy and program for substances of abuse. Niners LB Foster to sit two games.

49ers linebacker Reuben Foster was suspended without pay for the first two games of the regular season for violating the NFL’s conduct and substance-abuse policy.

The NFL said Foster will also be fined for violations from a weapons offense and misdemeano­r drug charge that were resolved earlier this offseason. Astros’ McCann to have surgery.
