SIX OFFICERS PRESENT AT FATAL SHOOTING

- — Joe Rubino, The Denver Post

At least six Arvada officers were present at a Wheat Ridge gas station Thursday night when police shot and killed a man suspected of committing several crimes, including an armed robbery at a Walmart.

The deceased man, whose identity has not been released, was being followed by Arvada detectives in unmarked cars after being spotted about 6 p.m. Thursday in what is believed to have been a stolen vehicle, police said. He pulled into a Shell station at West 49th Avenue and Kipling Street. When officers attempted to arrest him, “an altercation happened and shots were fired,” Arvada police spokeswoman Julie Glynn said Thursday night.

Police have not said how many officers fired their weapons, whether the man who was killed was carrying a gun or if he fired any shots of his own. At least six officers were on the scene when the incident happened, Arvada police Detective David Snelling said.

A countywide team has launched an investigation.
