Colorado’s voters weren’t fooled

The Denver Post - - OPINION - Harry Doby,

Congratulations to both our Governor-elect Jared Polis and Colorado voters for seeing a bright, bold future ahead of us in this wonderful state.

Sensible measures fared well last night, while inflexible, questionably funded measures were rejected. Voters weren’t fooled by yet another poison-pill measure from Jon Caldara and his dark-money funded Independence Institute. No to hard-wiring of yet more laws into our already conflicted and overburdened constitution by outside special interests!

I believe the takeaways are that Coloradans want our elected representatives to work together and come up with practical solutions to real issues (cost of health care, roads, infrastructure and education), with adequate funding that can then be evaluated and approved by voters.

No more legislative time wasted on ideological “statement” bills; rather let’s roll up our sleeves and work on bipartisan-tempered bills. We have lots of good ideas from both sides of the aisle in our state, they just need to have fresh air and sunshine to flourish. Send letters of 250 words or fewer to openforum@denver or 5990 Washington St., Denver, CO, 80216. Please include full name, city and phone number. Contact information is for our purposes only; we will not share it with anyone else. You can reach us by telephone at 303-954-1201.
