A former Lakewood police officer was on duty when he gave a woman a ride home in his patrol car from a Denver bar and allegedly sexually assaulted her in the back of the vehicle, authorities said.

Randall Shaun Bulter, 37, is charged with two counts of sexual assault for conduct committed while on duty, according to a news release by Maro Casparian, spokesperson for Denver District Attorney Beth McCann.

Butler is being held in the Denver jail, according to Denver County Court records.

Butler allegedly committed the sexual assaults on the night of Nov. 16, according to court records.

The alleged victim told Denver police she was walking home from a bar on West Seventh Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard when a police officer pulled up next to her, briefly turned on his siren and offered to drive her part of the way home in his patrol car.

“The area of 10th and Sheridan that I was in at the moment wasn’t a very good one to be walking around at night,” the unnamed victim told police, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

The officer dropped her off in a parking lot and she got out of the back of the patrol car. As she climbed out of the car, the police officer allegedly said, “You look like you want to kiss me.”

“That’s when I knew I was in trouble,” the woman told police. “I knew that things were going to get worse and if I didn’t do what I was told, he could hurt me.”

The officer got out of the car, walked to the victim and began kissing and fondling her breasts, according to the arrest warrant affidavit.

The officer then allegedly sexually assaulted her in the back seat of the police car, the affidavit says.

She ran to a 7-Eleven convenience store and called her mother, who picked her up. She said she was heartbroken that she didn’t go to police for a rape examination.

“I literally hate myself, and I’m scared as hell to talk to the police about it,” she later told Denver police, the affidavit said.

She would recall that his cheeks looked like they were “storing nuts for the winter,” but he had the neck of a chipmunk. His name tag was, “R. Butler.”

When police interviewed Butler, he claimed the woman came on to him by kissing him. At first he pushed her away but then “his impulses got the best of him and he ended up having sex with her,” he allegedly said.

Butler was immediately put on administrative leave and resigned his position.
