Keenum “excited” after meetings with Fangio, Scangarello
Broncos quarterback Case Keenum was out of town last month when coach Vic Fangio held his introductory news conference, but he has met with him and new offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello.
“I got to visit with Coach Fangio and Rich and those guys (and) I’m really excited about the direction of the program,” Keenum said Wednesday. “I spent very little time with them, but in the little time I did, it’s been really good so I’m excited to get to work with those guys and start fresh.”
It will be a fresh offseason for Keenum with Fangio, Scangarello and new quarterbacks T.C. McCartney. But it may also be an uncertain one.
General manager John Elway said Keenum “is probably a shortterm fix” for the Broncos. That could be interpreted two ways: Keenum has one year remaining on his contract, or the Broncos plan on drafting a quarterback.
“I take it for what it’s worth,” Keenum said. “It’s not something that’s affecting me in my preparation. … For me, I take more of what my coaches say and the meetings that we’ve had.”
Keenum met with reporters at the Legislative Legal Services Building (across the street from the state Capitol) after he and four Broncos teammates were present in support of a bill that would allow state-certified athletic trainers to have their liability coverage follow them from state to state.
Running back Phillip Lindsay and former Broncos trainer Jim Keller (also present of the Colorado Athletic Trainers Association) were among those who spoke during the hearing. Via 10-1 vote, the bill was moved onto the Senate.
“Athletic trainers have been a huge part of my entire life,” Keenum said. “I’ve spent a lot of time in the training room, whether I wanted to or not.”
In addition to Keenum and Lindsay, guard Max Garcia and tight ends Jake Butt and Jeff Heuerman attended.
Keenum had not been available to the media since Dec. 31, hours after coach Vance Joseph was fired.
Since Scangarello was hired,
