Michalowski completes staff
BOULDER» Brian Michalowski has been in Boulder for about a month, and he already got a promotion.
According to a BuffZone source, Michalowski will be named the Colorado Buffaloes’ outside linebackers coach, completing firstyear head coach Mel Tucker’s staff of on-field assistants.
Michalowski, 29, was hired Jan. 7 as director of quality control for the defense but has since been moved to a full-time coaching position. He spent the 2018 season as a qualitycontrol assistant on defense at Georgia, working with Tucker and new CU defensive coordinator Tyson Summers.
This weekend, Michalowski was in Germany to teach at the 14th annual Bavarian Coaches Convention.
Michalowski was a student assistant for four years at Arizona State before working in quality control for the Sun Devils in 2011 and as a graduate assistant in 2012. In 2013, he was a graduate assistant at Wyoming, working with outside linebackers.
In 2014, he was the defensive coordinator of the Cologne Falcons in the German Football League, and then worked as the defensive coordinator at Garden City (Kan.) Community College in 2015. He then spent two seasons (2016-17) as a graduate assistant at Memphis, working with the Tigers’ outside linebackers.
CU’s defensive staff includes Summers (coordinator/safeties), Jimmy Brumbaugh (line), Ross Els (inside linebackers), Travares Tillman (cornerbacks) and Michalowski.
On offense, the Buffs’ staff includes Jay Johnson (coordinator/quarterbacks), Darrin Chiaverini (receivers), Darian Hagan (running backs), Chris Kapilovic (line) and Al Pupunu (tight ends).
The Buffs still have a pair of quality control positions to fill.
