College Basketball Top 25 Wrapup NO. 4 VIRGINIA TOPS TAR HEELS AT CHAPEL HILL

Kyle Guy scored 20 points, including back-to-back 3-pointers in the final two minutes, to help No. 4 Virginia beat No. 8 North Carolina 69-61 on Monday night.

De’Andre Hunter also had 20 points for the Cavaliers (21-2, 9-2 Atlantic Coast Conference), who played with veteran poise down the stretch after trailing for a good chunk of the second half.

The Cavaliers were coming off a second loss this season to No. 2 Duke and arrived in Chapel Hill facing the prospect of their first losing streak of any kind in two years. Yet Guy and his teammates rallied from seven down in the final eight minutes to snap UNC’s seven-game winning streak.

Coby White scored 17 points to lead the Tar Heels (19-5, 9-2).

TEXAS» Devon Dotson scored 25 points, including six free throws in the final 40 seconds of overtime, and Kansas earned its second win in a row while starting four freshmen.

After blowing a 12-point lead in the second half, the Jayhawks (19-6, 8-4 Big 12) never trailed in overtime. They broke the final tie on K.J. Lawson’s jumper with 1:09 left before Dotson sealed it at the free-throw line.

West Virginia starters dismissed.

» West Virginia starters W. V A. Esa Ahmad and Wes Harris have been dismissed from the team for undisclose­d violations of athletic department policies. Ahmad averaged 12.0 points per game, and Harris 7.9. … Georgia landed a rare top national recruit when shooting guard Anthony Edwards decided to stay close to his Atlanta home. Edwards, the No. 2 prospect nationally according to 247 Sports, also considered Kentucky, Florida State and North Carolina.

Katie Lou Samuelson added 29 points for the Huskies (22-2), who blew open a close game with a huge third quarter in which they outscored the Gamecocks 29-12.

The win was UConn’s 89th straight at home
