College hoops demand camaraderie and munchies
So maybe you already know what “Cinderella” and “Final Four” and “basketball” mean. Or maybe you’re just tagging along with some fan-friends over the next couple of sports weeks, hoping to score some cheap food and booze while putting up with screaming adults and televisions blocking your views.
Either way, you’ll have to eat, and we’ve got some spots to try out. These six are great places to score deals, from dollar tacos to happy hour daiquiris and, of course, dirt-cheap wings.
Stoney’s Uptown is playing every tournament game now through April 8 on its 33 HD TVs. Coors Lights cost $4 during March Madness, Pacificos go for $5 and food specials run daily throughout the week, like allyou-can-eat wing Wednesdays and $1 taco Thursdays. Wisconsin (food) fans could also take a break from the basketball and head next door to Shanty Supper Club for a fish fry and fried cheese curds. 1035 E. 17th Ave., is (thankfully) separate from the Ballpark sports bar scene, but NCAA fans can still head here during March Madness to watch and dine. While this pub is known for its fried chicken, green chile fries are on special for $6 and wings cost $10 throughout the tournament. Park Burger in RiNo has March Madness games playing across a dozen indoor TVs and
five more patio screens. Viewers can order $5 Breckenridge drafts and $5 pickle or pepperoncini shots to pair with any combination of patties, fries and shakes. 2615 Walnut bars in Stapleton and on South Broadway are a fine spot for the less fanatic March Madness viewer, especially one who enjoys happy hour specials like griddled bologna sandwiches ($11), serrano spiced edamame ($7) and
Sloan’s Lake Tap & Burger and its sister restaurants in Highland and Denver Tech Center are inviting fans to join their tournament brackets this week. The burger joints also will be tapping Stone beers during the games. Rhein Haus, the Bavarian beer hall and restaurant in downtown Denver, is offering diners 75-cent wings and $3 Coors Banquets whenever it’s broadcasting March Madness.
