“Celebrate Culture!” festival gets most of the attention on this weekend, but another worthy event is joining the dozens of others around town celebrating the Mexican army’s 1862 win over France at the Battle of Puebla (which is how the holiday started). Colorado Symphony’s Cultural Center, featuring mariachi and folklorico acts and food carts with Mexican food and beverages, noon-2 p.m. The celebration continues inside Boettcher Concert Hall at 2:30 p.m. with the symphony performing Jarabe Tapatio, Son de la Negra, La Lorona and Cietlo Lindo, among many others. Tickets for that event are $10-$25. coloradosymphony.org

With works by John e. Roberts, Jasmine Francisco, Samiyah Lynnice, Davry Ratcliffe, Martez McKinzy, Jessica Horton and Cedric Dewayne Hall. 7:30 p.m. on May 4 and 3 p.m. on May 5 at 199 Park Avenue West. Tickets: $25-$30.
