1 MAN DIES IN OFFICERINV­OLVED SHOOTING

One man was fatally shot following an hours-long standoff with Colorado Springs police that began Saturday evening, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office is investigat­ing the officerinv­olved shooting.

Police initially responded to a domestic disturbanc­e in the 4200 block of Forest Hill Road, according to a sheriff’s office news release. The Tactical Enforcemen­t Unit also responded.

The man had barricaded himself inside the home and during the standoff, the suspect fired at officers, sheriff’s office spokeswoma­n Natalie Sosa said on Sunday. Officers returned fire, shooting at least one shot, she said.

The man died of his injuries at the scene, according to the release. The coroner’s office will identify him after family is notified.

No officers were injured in the shooting and there is no ongoing threat to the community, according to the release.

1 dies in Lakewood crash.

The intersecti­on of West Alameda Avenue and South Kipling Street in Lakewood was closed for more than 10 hours Sunday following a two-car fatal crash.

A vehicle driving eastbound on West Alameda Avenue ran a red light at Kipling Street and hit another vehicle that was driving southbound on Kipling Street at about 2 a.m., Lakewood police spokeswoma­n Lindsay Jones said.

The passenger of the vehicle that was hit was killed, Jones said. Several other people from both vehicles were transporte­d to area hospitals for their injuries.

The intersecti­on remained closed until after noon on Sunday.

No charges have yet been filed in the incident as those involved in the crash are still being treated for their injuries, Jones said.

Police have not released informatio­n about any factors that may have contribute­d to the crash.

1 injured in shooting near Confluence Park.

Denver police are looking for a suspect in a shooting that left one person injured Saturday night.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting at 7:11 p.m. in the 1400 block of Little Raven Street, near Confluence Park, police spokesman Doug Schepman said.

Preliminar­y reports indicated a fight had occurred in the park and shots were fired, Schepman said. An adultmanwa­stakentoa hospital by family or friends for treatment of a gunshot wound. His condition is unknown.

Detectives are still investigat­ing the circumstan­ces around the shooting and working to develop suspect informatio­n, Schepman said.

Inmate who was sentenced to life to get a resentenci­ng hearing.

Erik Jensen, who was convicted of helping his friend kill the latter’s mother more than 20 years ago, is scheduled to be in court this week for a resentenci­ng hearing, the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office said Friday.

The hearing comes three years after a U.S. Supreme Court ruling gave inmates like Jensen a chance to be considered for parole or reduced prison time for crimes they committed as teenagers.

Jensen and his friend, Nathan Ybanez, beat and strangled the latter’s mother in her Highlands Ranch Apartment in 1998. Ybanez, who said his parents abused him, was convicted of the murder when he was 16.

Both Jensen and Ybanez were affected by the 2016 Supreme Court ruling. Ybanez is eligible for parole on Dec. 1, 2020 after being granted a limited commutatio­n by former Gov. John Hickenloop­er.

Jensen’s resentenci­ng hearing will be on Wednesday at 9 a.m. in Douglas County.

Driver dies after threecar crash in Aurora earlier this month.

A driver injured in a threecar crash in Aurora earlier this month died Friday night, police said.

The driver, who has not been identified, was taken to the hospital after being injured in a crash at North Peoria Street and East Colfax Avenue on May 8. Officers responded to the crash at about 6 p.m., according to a news release from the Aurora Police Department.

Aurora police said in the statement that the circumstan­ces of the death will be investigat­ed by the department’s traffic section.
