ARMSTRONG SAYS “WE DID WHAT WE HAD TO DO TO WIN”

NBCSN will broadcast an interview with Lance Armstrong following Game 2 of the Stanley Cup finals.

The network announced Thursday that the 30-minute special will start after the game on Wednesday night. Armstrong will discuss his career with Mike Tirico in “Lance Armstrong: Next Stage.”

The interview covers the doping culture within cycling when he competed, Armstrong’s separation from the Livestrong Foundation that supports people with cancer and what’s next for him.

Armstrong was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles for doping by the Internatio­nal Cycling Union in 2012.

He tells Tirico “we did what we had to do to win. It wasn’t legal, but I wouldn’t change a thing — whether it’s losing a bunch of money, going from hero to zero.”

Maryland medical staff won’t work for athletic department. COLLEGE

PARK, MD» The University of Maryland will have medical staff tending to the school’s sports teams employed outside of the athletics department. The directive, announced Thursday, fulfills recommenda­tions from an external safety review following the death last year of Maryland offensive lineman Jordan McNair, who collapsed during practice and subsequent­ly died of heatstroke.

Voynov suspension upheld.

ANGELES» An arbitrator upheld Slava Voynov’s one-season NHL suspension Thursday but is giving him credit for serving half of it in 2018-19.

Commission­er Gary Bettman suspended the former Los Angeles Kings defenseman for the upcoming season and the 2020 playoffs after determinin­g he committed acts of domestic violence. The NHL Players Associatio­n appealed the ruling.

Islanders, Nelson ink $36 million deal.

Less than a year after losing John Tavares, the New York Islanders re-signed star center Brock Nelson before he could even test free agency. Nelson on Thursday agreed to terms on a $36 million, six-year contract through the 2024-25 season.

Ex-Ohio State diving club coach pleads guilty. COLUMBUS, OHIO»

A former Ohio State diving club coach has pleaded guilty to charges related to allegation­s he had sex with a diver when she was a teenager. Former diver Estee Pryor has said defendant William Bohonyi began pressuring her for sex when she was 16.

Suns’ Holmes arrested.

Phoenix Suns big man Richaun Holmes was arrested Tuesday night for misdemeano­r possession of cannabis after a Miami-area traffic stop.

Bowl season to start on a Friday.

College football’s bowl season will begin on Friday Dec. 20 with the Bahamas Bowl. The College Football Playoff semifinals are scheduled for Dec. 28. The championsh­ip game is set for Jan. 13. Fifteen games will be played in between.

Woods to play in Memorial.

OHIO» Tiger Woods has decided to play in the Memorial next week. Woods is a five-time winner at Muirfield Village. The Memorial is two weeks before the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.

Bengals’ guard to sit 4 games.

YORK» The NFL has suspended Cincinnati Bengals guard Alex Redmond for the first four games of the 2019 regular season for violating the league’s policy on performanc­e-enhancing substances.
