Reforms are a reason for hope
While observing democracy’s retreat in some corners of the globe, I find solace in Colorado’s preservation efforts within our four corners.
Automatic voter registration via Senate Bill 235 utilizes existing voter interaction with some state offices to register, affiliate or opt out. While it awaits Gov. Polis’ signature, it should take effect on July 1.
The Clean Campaign Act of 2019 expands disclaimer laws to include “website, streaming media service or online forum.”
Finally, House Bill 1278 will increase ballot drop locations and grant participation to preregistered 17-year-olds in primaries if they’re eligible to vote in the next general election.
While attacks on democracy are still incoming, these reforms give a reason for hope. We have more to fight for, more to preserve and just maybe more people to help hold the line.
