ENGLAND BEATS NORWAY TO REACH WORLD CUP SEMIS

Lucy Bronze helped set up the first two goals before completing England’s 3-0 victory over Norway with a powerful shot of her own Thursday night, sending the team into its second straight Women’s World Cup semifinal.

After finishing third at the last tournament four years ago, England will now face either France or the United States on Tuesday in its quest for a first women’s final.

“Their two scouts were sitting literally behind the bench,” England coach Phil Neville said. “So I waved at them after the goals.”

Aresco: No chance of UConn staying as football member.

American Athletic Conference commission­er Mike Aresco said Thursday there is no chance the conference will keep the University of Connecticu­t as a football-only member.

UConn this week agreed to rejoin the Big East Conference for basketball and most other sports. The Big East does not compete in football.

The Associated Press asked Aresco if it was possible the league would retain UConn’s football program.

“The short answer is no, not a chance,” he said.

Lakers trading 3 to Wizards, clear cap space.

The Los Angeles Lakers’ price tag for Anthony Davis got a little steeper, with the tradeoff being that the team now has the flexibilit­y to bring another max-contract star to play alongside him and LeBron James next season. A person with knowledge of the negotiatio­ns told The Associated Press that the Lakers will send Moritz Wagner, Issac Bonga, Jemerrio Jones and a future secondroun­d pick to the Washington Wizards as part of the deal that will bring Davis to Los Angeles. The Wizards will send cash to the New Orleans Pelicans in the deal.

Breeders’ Cup stays at Santa Anita despite deaths.

NGELES» The Breeders’ Cup will remain at Santa Anita this fall after 30 horses died during the Southern California track’s recent meet.

The board of directors unanimousl­y decided to keep the two-day world championsh­ips at the Arcadia track for a record 10th time on Nov. 1-2.

Craig Fravel, president and CEO of the Breeders’ Cup, said in a statement the ownership of Santa Anita and other groups has made “meaningful and effective reforms” in recent months to improve safety.

Nate Lashley shoots 63 to take Rocket Mortgage Classic lead.

» Nate Lashley birdied the DETROIT final three holes and five of the last six for a 9-under 63 and the firstround lead Thursday in the Rocket Mortgage Classic, the PGA Tour’s first event in Detroit.

The 36-year-old Lashley had the lowest score in his PGA Tour career, a day after getting a spot at Detroit Golf Club as an alternate. Ranked 353rd in the world and No. 132 in the FedEx Cup standings, Lashley’s only top-10 finish in his two-year PGA Tour career is a tie for eighth in the Puerto Rico Open in February.
