COLORADANS DIE IN CRASH IN NEBRASKA

NEB.» Authoritie­s BRIDGEPORT, say two women and three children died when their vehicle collided with a truck on a Nebraska Panhandle highway.

The crash occurred about 6 p.m. Sunday, around 10 miles north of Bridgeport on U.S. 385.

The Nebraska State Patrol says a northbound sport utility vehicle went out of control during heavy rain, crossed the center line and hit the oncoming truck.

The patrol says all five people in the SUV were killed, including the driver, 30-year-old Amy Rednest of Alliance, Neb., and an adult passenger, 31-yearold Vanessa Gomez, of Westminste­r. Also killed were 14-year-old Nevaeh Montoya, of Westminste­r; 13-year-old Emma Reza; and 9-year-old Falicia Reza, both of Alliance.

The patrol says the truck driver, 61-year-old Brian Schmer, of Hudson, was taken to a hospital in Bridgeport with non-lifethreat­ening injuries.

Pair of escapees captured. Two escapees from a federal prison camp near Florence on Sunday were captured Monday on a railroad property just west of Pueblo West.

Deputies were notified about 11:25 a.m. Monday of two men seen by a Union Pacific Railroad employee walking east along tracks in the area of Carslile and Hobson roads in western Pueblo County, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

Deputies responded to the area along with Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers to search rugged terrain. Railroad traffic was halted and responders, using four-wheel drive vehicles, searched along tracks for more than a mile when the pair were spotted.

Jonathan Gomez, 22, and Guillermo Montano, 39, were taken into custody, without further incident.

Man dies after being

punched. A man has died after being punched in a fight Saturday evening in the East Colfax neighborho­od, Christine Downs, a Denver police spokeswoma­n, said.

The man was transporte­d to a hospital after police responded to a disturbanc­e at 8 p.m. in the 1900 block of Quebec Street, the Denver Police Department said on Twitter on Monday. The man, who has not been identified, died on Sunday.

Detectives are investigat­ing the incident as a homicide.

Police seeking witnesses. Denver police are asking for help in identifyin­g the person who shot and killed a 14-year-old boy in the Northfield Stapleton neighborho­od early Friday morning.

Aiden Lawrence was shot around 2:30 a.m. near East 54th Avenue and North Xenia Street, police said.

Anyone with informatio­n about the homicide is asked to call Denver police at (720) 913-7867. A witness who provides informatio­n that could help solve the case could earn up to a $2,000 reward.
