The man police say was behind the wheel of a car that tore off down a busy downtown Denver street late last month, hitting two pedestrians, has been arrested and charged with felony counts of first-degree assault and leaving the scene of an accident.

The Denver district attorney’s office on Tuesday announced that Manuel Saucedo, 34, faces multiple charges in connection with the chaotic Aug. 25 collision near Coors Field that was captured on cellphone video and posted to social media.

No arrest date was provided. Saucedo will appear in court for a preliminary hearing Oct. 9. He had an advisement hearing Tuesday.

According to a probable cause arrest affidavit released Tuesday, Denver police responded to a fight that had broken out at 20th and Market streets just before 2 a.m. The affidavit states that police arrived to see a car sitting in the middle of Market Street and that the occupants of the car had gotten out and “engaged in the physical altercation.”

After an officer deployed multiple volleys of pepper balls, dispersing the crowd that had gathered, the vehicle’s occupants jumped back in the car and “the driver accelerated through the intersection, striking two pedestrians in the process,” the affidavit reads.

“The vehicle strikes two male pedestrians as it enters the intersection and makes a left turn onto 20th Street,” the document states. “One of the pedestrians that was struck rolled onto the hood of the vehicle and then rolled off.”

The vehicle proceeded down 20th Street, toward Interstate 25, without stopping, police said.

Police were able to get a license plate of the vehicle and trace it to Saucedo, and they were assisted by several witnesses. The two crash victims were not seriously injured, according to police.
