Three men were extradited from Illinois to Colorado in connection with the stabbing of a man and his dog during a robbery, according to the Denver District Attorney’s Office.

James Perkins, 22, D’Andre Perkins, 20, and Davon Reed, 20, were arrested on the same day after showing up to probation appointments in Springfield, Ill., according to a news release.

They had arrest warrants on charges of firstdegree criminal attempt to commit murder, aggravated cruelty to animals, first-degree assault, aggravated robbery, menacing, first-degree burglary and crime of violence in connection to a July robbery at an apartment in Denver.

Denver police responded to a report of a robbery near Park Avenue West and Larimer Street where they found a man with multiple stab wounds and a woman holding a dog that also had been stabbed, according to an arrest warrant provided by the DA’s office.

The man who had been stabbed told police four men and a woman were at his apartment to “hang out” when he and his dog were attacked.

He had gotten up to get water, turned around when he heard his dog yelping and then he was punched, he told police. He then followed his dog as it ran out.

The victim didn’t realize he was stabbed until later, according to the warrant.

A woman who was threatened with a knife was unharmed. The stabbed dog survived after being treated at an emergency clinic. Another dog in the apartment also had a small stab wound and survived.

All three men are being held in the Denver jail, according to Denver Sheriff Department online jail records.
