Yes on 1A in Arapahoe County

The current members of the Board of Arapahoe County Commissioners are to be commended for their research, evaluation and unanimous (bipartisan) support of the ballot measure that will enhance the public safety of Arapahoe County.

Ballot Measure 1A, a long- term investment in public safety, will ensure the safety of sheriff’s deputies, will reduce unsafe conditions caused by overcrowding of inmate populations and will provide space for critical inmate programs that will reduce recidivism, address mental health concerns and provide much needed education/job training opportunities.

More than 40% of the Arapahoe County inmate population suffers from a variety of serious mental health challenges that continue to contribute to their criminal behavior; mental health conditions that are rarely identified or addressed until an individual comes to the attention of the criminal justice system.

Ballot Measure 1A is a well considered, responsible and reasonable effort to effectively and efficiently resolve the existing public safety challenges related to the aging, deteriorating and ineffective detentions facility.
