Littleton man gets 96 years for crime spree

- By James Burky

A Littleton man who held five people at gunpoint and forced a sixth to drive him to Albuquerque was sentenced to 96 years in prison, according to a news release from the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

Eric Weston, 37, pleaded guilty to two counts of armed robbery, two counts of aggravated robbery and two counts of felony menacing, the release said. He was sentenced on Oct. 4.

Weston, a sex offender, was on parole in Georgia for a drug charge and was wanted for robbery in Florida when he ignited his crime spree.

In June 2017, he met two women interested in buying a car he posted onto “Letgo.” When the three got into the car, Weston pulled a gun on the sisters. The two women screamed and jumped out of the car. Weston took off in the other direction where he pointed the gun toward a man, who had stopped to see what the commotion about. Weston fled after finding out the man had no car keys, the news release said.

Weston drew his gun on two more people before he stole a woman’s car. Eventually, he abandoned the car and hid in a Denver home. When the homeowner arrived, Weston held him at gunpoint. After several hours, Weston forced the man to drive him to Albuquerque, the news release said.

Once there, Weston took the man’s cellphone and allowed him to go. Littleton police learned Weston was boarding a bus from Albuquerque to San Bernadino, Calif. That was when police agencies from California and Colorado teamed up to bring his spree to an end.

“Eric Weston is a dangerous predator with no regard for the law,” Deputy District Attorney Michael Mauro said. “We count our blessings he did not pull the trigger on June 23, 2017.”
