MAN PLEADS GUILTY FOR STEALING BUS

A man accused of stealing an RTD bus, crashing it and carjacking a vehicle and crashing it in Denver pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery, according to the Denver District Attorney’s Office.

Solomon Garcia, 37, was charged by the DA’s office with eight criminal counts for the 20-minute crime spree on Aug. 26, the DA’s office said in a news release. He pleaded guilty to the felony charge Thursday.

Garcia stole an RTD bus at the Southbound North Federal Bus Stop #F and then crashed it at West Sixth Avenue Frontage Road and North Lowell Boulevard, according to a probable cause statement provided by the DA’s office.

After crashing the bus, Garcia forced a woman out of her vehicle and stole it. Garcia crashed the car at North Sheridan Boulevard and West First Avenue where police took him into custody, according to the police statement.

He is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 12 and faces up to 10 years in prison, according to the DA’s office.

Man arrested on suspicion of DUI, leaving crash that left 1 dead.

A 26-yearold man has been arrested in connection to a crash that left one person dead early Sunday morning, according to Aurora police.

Cameron Smith was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident involving death, police said in a release.

Smith was driving a Ford SUV northbound on Interstate 225 and getting off at East Mississipp­i Avenue when he drove into the intersecti­on and crashed into a Lexus SUV that was headed eastbound, police said. The Lexus driver was killed and a passenger seriously injured.

The suspect walked away from the crash, but some people told police he was at a nearby business where officers found and arrested him.

Smith is being held at the Arapahoe County Jail on a $10,000 bond, and he is scheduled to be in court at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, according to jail records.

Wildfire forces evacuation­s in Conejos County.

A wildfire that started Sunday in Conejos County forced evacuation­s and burned at least 2,000 acres.

The fire, named G-18, started as a grassland fire, according to a Conejos County Sheriff’s Office news release. The fire destroyed one structure, three outbuildin­gs as a well as fences, pastures and haystacks. Livestock have been displaced, the news release said.

One firefighte­r suffered minor injuries, the sheriff’s news release said.

The fire continued to burn Monday, the sheriff’s office said. It is contained but emergency responders feared high winds could cause it to spread.

Roads around the fire were re-opened. Fire crews and sheriff’s deputies will continue monitoring the area. — Denver Post
