Two blue-chippers commit

- By Brian Howell Price honored by Pac-12.

BOULDER» For about six weeks, the Colorado football team couldn’t seem to catch a break.

This past week, however, has been rather good to the Buffaloes.

On Monday, two days after snapping their five-game losing streak with a 16-13 win against Stanford, the Buffaloes landed two commitments for the 2020 recruiting class, including their highest-rated player in the class.

Running back Ashaad Clayton from New Orleans and outside linebacker Toren Pittman from Frisco, Texas, announced their commitments on Twitter after taking official visits to CU over the weekend.

Last week, the Buffs also announced that Antonio Alfano, a former five-star defensive end from the 2019 class, would be transferring from Alabama and joining the team in January.

Clayton and Pittman were a part of the biggest recruiting weekend in years for CU, as four players were on official visits and 85 total recruits were on hand for the win against Stanford.

Clayton, who is 6-foot, 200 pounds, has a four-star rating from 247Sports.com, which ranks him No. 16 nationally among running backs. He has 15 other offers, including from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Nebraska, Tennessee, Texas and Texas A&M.

Pittman has a three-star rating from 247Sports and offers from six other schools, including Arkansas and Baylor. His father, Kavika Pittman, played defensive end with the Broncos, Dallas Cowboys and Carolina Panthers. His grandfather, Drew Pearson, was a three-time all-pro receiver with the Dallas Cowboys.

Pittman, listed at 6-3, 190, is projected to play in the defensive backfield position for CU.

CU has 20 players committed for the 2020 class — a group that does not include Alfano because he’s a transfer.

Rivals.com has the Buffs’ class ranked 33rd nationally, while 247Sports.com has CU ranked 35th. Both have the Buffs No. 6 in the Pac-12.

A week ago, Evan Price wasn’t sure if he’d be playing against Stanford.

On Monday, he was named Pac12 special-teams player of the week.

Colorado’s redshirt freshman kicker was honored by the conference after a performance in which he went 3-for-3 on field goals, scored 10 points and booted a 37yard game-winning field goal as time expired to beat Stanford, 1613, on Saturday at Folsom Field.

Senior left tackle Arlington Hambright was also recognized as the Pac-12’s offensive lineman of the week.

Price was filling in for injured James Stefanou and didn’t know until last Thursday that he would be kicking against the Cardinal.
