Judicial District Attorney’s Office on Friday released the raw body camera video from the two officers who shot and killed 19-year-old De’Von Bailey on Aug. 3 after he ran away from them.

The videos come on the heels of a report released Thursday from a grand jury that elected not to indict Sgt. Alan Van’t Land and Officer Blake Evenson.

The videos show much of what already has been released: The officers contacted Bailey and another individual because they fit the description from a 911 call reporting an armed robbery in the area. When officers went to search the teen for a weapon, he ran.

Officers can be heard yelling for Bailey to put up his hands before they fired shots into his back. He later died of his injuries.

The grand jury determined the officers were justified in the shooting, citing Colorado’s “fleeing felon” law in addition to public safety concerns.

COUNTY» A 40-year-old man was sentenced to 40 years in prison for a stabbing death at a Federal Heights carwash.

The two men, who knew each other, were involved in a long domestic dispute, prosecutors said. An argument led to a knife attack. Casares was stabbed eight times, including a fatal wound to his neck, the release said.

DeHerrera pleaded guilty on Sept. 13 to a charge of second-degree murder. Adams County District Judge Tomee Crespin noted that this was DeHerrera’s third felony conviction as she imposed the 40-year sentence.

Denver men charged in case involving 2-pound brick of fentanyl.

Two men were charged in federal court Thursday with possessing fentanyl with intent to distribute in a case involving a bricksized amount of the dangerous drug that was found in a west Denver residence.

Gilbert Franco Garcia, 38, and Jesus AvilesHiguera, 29, appeared in U.S. District Court in Denver, where they were advised of their rights and charges pending against them, according to a news release from the U.S. attorney’s office in Colorado. Both suspects remain in custody.

On Nov. 1, Denver police executed a search warrant at 4860 W. Mexico Ave., the news release said. Seized was a 2-pound brick of fentanyl, more than 100 fentanyl pills, about 454 grams of black tar heroin and about 75 grams of cocaine.

At the time of the seizure, police and city health officials issued a warning about the dangerous find. Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid, is often found to be 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine and more powerful than heroin. The massive quantity of fentanyl raised concerns about potential overdoses.
