K.C. POLICE: GUARD SAVED LIVES IN BAR SHOOTING

» An armed security KANSAS CITY, MO. guard saved several lives when he shot and killed a heavily armed man who opened fire on a line of people waiting to get into a Kansas City, Mo., bar, killing one person and wounding at least 15 others, Kansas City’s police chief said Monday.

Police were still trying to determine a motive for the late Sunday shooting at the 9ine Ultra Lounge in eastern Kansas City that created a chaotic scene as hundreds of patrons fled the scene on foot and in cars, police Chief Richard Smith said.

The security guard, whose identity was not released, fatally shot Jahron Swift, 29, of Kansas City, police said. The woman who died was identified as Raeven Parks, 25, of Kansas City. It was not known if there was any connection between Swift and Parks, Smith said.

The security guard, who is licensed to be a guard but is not an off-duty officer, heard the disturbanc­e from inside the bar and went outside and confronted the shooter, Smith said.

Police arrested a 19-year-old man in a shooting that left two men dead and at least five people injured at a concert in San Antonio, Texas.

Kieran Christophe­r Williams will be charged with capital murder for allegedly opening fire during an argument Sunday at a bar on the Museum Reach portion of the San Antonio River Walk, police said Monday.

The medical examiner’s officer identified the men killed as Robert Martinez, 21, and Alejandro Robles, 25, police said. A 46year-old woman and four male teens between the ages of 16 and 19 were hurt but are expected to survive their injuries, police said.

California driver intentiona­lly rammed a Toyota Prius with six teenage boys inside, killing three and injuring three others before fleeing, authoritie­s said Monday.

The Prius went off the road and slammed into a tree at around 10:30 p.m. Sunday in Temescal Valley in Riverside County, southeast of Los Angeles.

Anurag Chandra, 42, of Corona, Calif., was arrested a short time later in a neighborho­od near the crash site, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Putin sends his constituti­onal proposals to Parliament.

Vladimir Putin on Monday submitted to parliament a package of constituti­onal amendments widely seen as an attempt to secure his grip on power well after his current term ends in 2024.

Putin first presented the proposed changes in his stateof-the-nation address Wednesday, arguing they are intended to bolster the role of Parliament and strengthen democracy. Kremlin critics have argued that they are intended to allow his rule for life.

The Kremlin-controlled lower house, the State Duma, received a draft bill on constituti­onal proposals from the Kremlin and quickly scheduled the first of three required readings for Thursday.

The Kremlin’s constituti­onal bill submitted to parliament empowers the Council to “determine the main directions of home and foreign policy,” its specific authority yet to be spelled in a separate law.

Police: Baby boy found dead in trash bin.

NORTH LAS VEGAS, » Police are investigat­ing the NE V. death of an infant boy whose body was found in an alley trash bin in a North Las Vegas neighborho­od.

Officer Eric Leavitt said Monday that police were called a little before 9 a.m. Sunday and investigat­ors think the child was younger than 6 months old.

The body didn’t show any obvious physical injuries, Leavitt said, and police asked for public help to identify him.

The Clark County coroner’s office is expected in coming days to release his identity and cause and manner of death.
