Metro area might get more snow overnight

- By Chris Bianchi

Another round of snow is set to impact the Denver metro area overnight Monday into Tuesday, potentially leading to slick spots on Tuesday morning and perhaps on Monday night as well.

Accumulations are expected to range from 1 to 4 inches in Denver from this system, with the south and west sides of the metro area expected to receive the higher amounts, as usual.

The timing for this next storm, however, seems to be centering closer to overnight Monday and into Tuesday morning, which could make Tuesday’s morning commute a hazardous one. With President’s Day falling on Monday and any accumulations likely coming after dark on Monday, it would appear that the Tuesday morning commute would have the highest chance for snow-related impacts in the Denver area.

Snows so far this month have also generally over-performed forecasts, largely due to narrow bands of heavy snowfall centering on the urban corridor. With that in mind, an area of low pressure southeast of Denver will help create a more conventional setup for snowfall along the Front Range, though the heaviest snows will likely fall in southern

Colorado. Colorado Springs and Pueblo could see closer to 6 inches from this storm, and the Palmer Divide will likely see higher amounts than Denver.

A few stronger bands of snowfall could create some higher totals in the urban corridor, however, mainly south and west of Denver. Chilly weather is expected to follow the snow on Tuesday and Wednesday, with high temperatures stuck in the 30s both days.
